“bizarre NEW FRIENDSHIPS”
They made their way through many more tunnels and passages until they came to the lit passages of the Coblyn Colony. They reached the animal infirmary and after Robyn had held the double doors open, Gludog and Nomis laid their stretcher down on the worktable in the middle of the rather large chamber. The only other person in the room ignored them completely for a moment or two. From Robyn’s reticence Nomis deduced that this must be Master Garan, as he could not imagine anyone else reducing Robyn to silence.
Gludog’s tutor was a rather ‘beaky’ middle-aged Coblyn with small beady eyes. He was nearly bald except for a tuft of grey-brownish-red hair that stood up, right in the middle of his head. This, coupled with his very spindly legs, meant he was very aptly named after all, Nomis thought with amusement, as he imagined a heron in his place.
Master Garan looked up from his writing, surprised to see a strange Elfin with his two novices. Gludog made the introductions adding: “Nomis is a student physician with Master Hiral of the Great Tower; he helped me bring this poor unfortunate baby pigmy shrew in for stitching. I do hope you didn’t mind, sir!”
Nomis, rather surprisingly, found Master Garan to be in a reasonably friendly frame of mind after all that Robyn had been saying.
“No, no of course not … of course not. Come on then, let’s have a look, let’s have a look.” Master Garan’s peculiar habit of constantly repeating himself reminded Nomis of a chicken, always pecking at the same thing twice. Although he was a nervous bird-like individual, his professionalism came through forcibly as he gently tended the little shrew.
“Now then Cecren Bach, what do we have here … what have we here?” The newly named ‘Cecren Bach’ looked up pathetically.
